Did you know that the Gwent portcullis logo was from the old Monmouthshire coat of arms? This is because Gwent were originally known as the Monmouthshire Centre.
The Monmouthshire Centre was formed on 1st January 1970, as a result of a meeting called in September 1969, by a group of South Wales Centre members to form a new Centre. This meeting voted in favour of the formation of a new Centre, the Monmouthshire Centre. The Monmouthshire Centre was renamed “Gwent” as a result of the Local Government re-organisation in 1974.
Our first Chairman was Mr Doug Payne, who chaired the Centre from 1970 to 1972. His son has also been our Chairman and rallies with us on a regular basis.
Gwent Centre celebrated its 45th birthday in 2015 at a celebration Rally held in Pont Kemys.
Gwent Centre are very proud of the fact that they are able to present a comprehensive Rally programme every year. Some of the rallies are celebration rallies such as halloween or the New Year Rally. Other rallies might have other themes such as the very popular “pudding rally” or a Country and Western theme, but what is guaranteed is the opportunity to site your van and relax and enjoy some of the wonderful scenery around you and of course catch up with friends.
Our 2017 Rally Programme is listed on the website, so have a look and book soon to make sure of a space.
The Centre hosts a Dinner Dance for members in January of each year. Its a wonderful opportunity to dress up and have a great time in wonderful company.
We usually run a holiday rally in the summer. Last year (2016) we held a very successful holiday rally at Bagwell Farm - a commercial site near Weymouth overlooking Chesil Beach. This year a holiday rally to Camp Regenbogen, Bad Liebenzell in Germany is planned.
